Replica Movado Watches

Movado Watch Co., a high end luxury Swiss watch brand, was founded by Achilles Ditesheim in 1881 in the town of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland at the tender young age of 19.  In 1983 it was acquired by Gedalio Grinberg, a native New Yorker, who was an avid arts enthusiast. The current Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Movado Group Inc. is Gedalio’s son Efraim Grinberg. Its name Movado means “always in motion” in Esperanto, an artificially constructed international language meant to foster peace by being politically neutral.

Movado is most well known for the Replica Movado watch, conceived by Nathan George Horwitt, an American designer in 1947. This iconic watch is an ode to Modernism. It is defined by a single prominent gold dot at twelve o’clock, meant to denote the sun at high noon. The clean simplicity of this design remains unparalleled in the history of watch making. The New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) director of photography, Edward Steichen, called Horwitt’s creation “the only truly beautiful and original design for such an object”. Some proclamation from such a renowned artist and photographer!

Replica Movado watches are part of more than twenty prominent museum watch collections all over the world. They are recognized internationally for their unique artistry and innovation in the horological industry. Movado commissioned Phillip Johnson, an architect of world renown, to design and install “Time Sculpture”, a unique sculpture with a clock. It stands outside Lincoln Center in Manhattan and serves as a continuing symbol of Movado Watch Co.’s enduring commitment to the arts.
